TN
That U.S. opportunity is worth a conversation. Explore professional work through the TN pathway.
Saint-Germain-de-Grantham sits on the Highway 20 corridor, and a fair share of the people here who look south are doing it because of freight, warehousing, refrigerated equipment or food logistics. A dispatcher is offered a coordinator job in Ohio. A brokerage wants its branch manager to run the American desk. A couple with money from a sold trucking fleet wants to buy an American business. Those are four different legal problems, and the mistake that costs the most time is deciding which visa applies before deciding which fact is in dispute. These pages describe what TN, L-1A, L-1B, E-2, EB-5 and the Gold Card program actually require under United States federal law, which does not change from one Quebec municipality to the next. This is general information, not legal advice, and none of it decides that a category fits a particular person.

Six routes, and each one hinges on a small number of hard facts. TN turns on Canadian or Mexican citizenship and whether the job is one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 2 at the qualification that profession demands. L-1A and L-1B turn on a year of qualifying employment abroad and a real corporate relationship between two active companies. E-2 turns on treaty nationality, money irrevocably committed and at risk, and whether the applicant will actually direct the business. EB-5 turns on qualifying capital, ten jobs and a lawful, traceable source of funds. The Gold Card program follows its own official framework, built on a gift to the U.S. government plus a processing fee, and its terms should be read on the government's own page before anyone commits.
Choose what brings you here. Leave with a short list of things to discuss—not another long form to fill out.
A United States employer's offer is the start of the analysis, not the end of it. What decides TN is the profession, the duties and the credential behind them.

Most files that stall do so for a reason that was visible on day one and went unexamined: a job title that does not match any listed profession, a corporate chart with a gap in it, a bank transfer nobody kept a statement for, or a nineteen-year-old whose birthday falls in the middle of the process. Finding that fact early is cheaper than discovering it at a consular window. What we help with is the ordering: get the deciding fact identified, get the evidence for it assembled, and let a licensed United States immigration attorney answer the legal question from a complete picture rather than a summary.

No promises we can’t keep.
Not the visa name, the arrangement. Who is the legal employer, what would the person do in a normal week, where would that work physically happen, who is putting money in, and what has already been signed. A file described in category labels invites a category guess; a file described in duties, entities and dollars can be tested against a rule.
Each route has a short list of conditions and they are not interchangeable. Read the actual requirement for the route that seems closest, then check the arrangement against it item by item, marking each one proven, provable, or doubtful. Most people find that four conditions are obvious and one is not.
The doubtful item is the file. It might be a credential evaluation, a subsidiary that was never formally incorporated, a wire that passed through an account nobody kept records for, or a licence the state issues in twelve weeks. Put a name, an owner and a date on it, because everything else is waiting on it.
Resignations, escrow deadlines, school registrations and equipment orders should follow a legal opinion, not precede one. A signed offer, an accepted purchase agreement or a filed petition is not permission to begin work or to move a family, and treating it as permission is how avoidable problems get created.
Each of the six route pages starts from a different arrangement: an engineer whose offer letter files her under a title from another profession, a manager posted into a registered branch rather than a subsidiary, a developer of a system her employer wrote for itself, a buyer who must sequence a purchase against an application, a family whose capital is part sale proceeds and part a loan against their own house, an owner testing a counterparty's claim about what a program authorizes. Read two side by side and the categories stop looking interchangeable: the fact that decides one page is often one the next never asks about.
Find your pathwayShneur Herman, Jo Kubti and Alexander Paton take the enquiries that come from Saint-Germain-de-Grantham, and they take them remotely. There is no office in the municipality and nowhere to walk in; the consultation happens wherever the applicant already is. Its job is to set the facts down in order, name the one that is still unproven, and say what evidence would settle it. USAvisa is not a law firm and does not represent anyone before a United States agency; where a matter calls for legal advice or a filing, it collaborates with a licensed U.S. immigration attorney. Nothing published here decides an individual case; it describes what the federal rules require.

A Canadian citizen may present a complete TN application to a United States Customs and Border Protection officer at a port of entry or preclearance location, or a United States employer may file Form I-129 with USCIS first. Canadians do not receive a TN visa foil from a consulate. Which route is better depends on timing, travel plans and how much the employer wants a decision on paper before the person resigns.
No. TN, L-1, E-2, EB-5 and the Gold Card program are federal United States programs with identical requirements everywhere in Canada. What changes locally is the practical texture: which employers exist, what a person actually does at work, and how easily the underlying records can be gathered.
The country of the payer does not decide the question. What decides it is the physical location of the work and the classification the person holds while doing it. Continuing to draw a Canadian salary neither creates United States work authorization nor destroys it; the classification does that, and each category has its own limits on what work it covers.
No, and treating them as versions of each other causes real problems. EB-5 is a statutory immigrant investor category requiring capital at risk in a commercial enterprise and the creation of at least ten jobs. The Gold Card program follows a separate official framework built on a gift to the U.S. government plus a processing fee. Read the current terms on the government's own page before any money moves.
