TN
That U.S. opportunity is worth a conversation. Explore professional work through the TN pathway.
Most enquiries that reach us from Wickham arrive with a category already attached, recommended by a supplier, a cousin or a broker. A more reliable starting point is the opposite question: what would each route stop you from doing? Every category described on this site carries a disqualifying condition that ends an otherwise strong application, and those conditions differ far more sharply than the eligibility lists do. One forbids working for yourself. One forbids supplying your employee as labour to somebody else's business. One forbids an enterprise that supports nobody but its owner. One forbids money that is parked rather than exposed to loss. Reading those refusals against a household's real plan sorts the options faster than any checklist of requirements.
U.S. visa support for Canadians
ready for what’s next.
A hospital pharmacist weighing what to say at a border counter, a plant manager whose qualifying year abroad was interrupted and a couple buying an American casework shop are asking three unrelated questions, and the prohibitions divide them cleanly. TN closes to anyone who would be self-employed in the United States, however strong the credential. L-1B closes where the transferred specialist is really being supplied to another company as labour, a bar written for specialized knowledge that has no managerial or executive counterpart. E-2 closes where the business would support only the investor's own household. EB-5 closes where capital is reserved rather than genuinely at risk. The Gold Card forecloses nothing commercial at all, because it is not an employment or investment category: it is a payment and a vetting process attached to immigrant classifications that already exist.
Choose what brings you here. Leave with a short list of things to discuss—not another long form to fill out.
For a Canadian citizen the profession and the duty description decide a TN long before anybody reaches a border.

Two documents shorten everything that follows. The first is a plain-language description of what each person would actually do all day, written before anyone attaches a job title to it, because adjudicators read duties and titles drift. The second is a diagram of every company involved, showing who holds which percentage and who has signing authority, drawn rather than described in a sentence. Between them they answer most of the disqualifying conditions above without an adviser needing to ask a question. What they cannot answer is where money came from, which is a separate exercise in bank records going back years, and how old each child will be on the day a decision is finally made.
Meet the people in your corner
Personal support.
A practical plan.
No promises we can’t keep.
For each route under consideration, set out the one condition that would end it: self-employment, a worker supplied as labour to another firm, an enterprise supporting only its owner, capital that is never exposed to loss. Mark the ones your plan comes anywhere near, and treat those marks as the agenda for the first conversation.
Ask whoever drafted the offer or the transfer proposal to set out a typical week by activity and by share of time. A description built from real tasks withstands questioning. One built from an internal title collapses the moment it is compared against a listed profession or against the definition of managerial capacity.
A single diagram showing every entity on both sides of the border, the percentage each shareholder holds and who signs answers the corporate half of an L-1 or a treaty-investor file. A paragraph about family ownership does not, and it is usually the paragraph that generates a request for further evidence.
A child's twenty-first birthday, the completion of a qualifying year of employment abroad, the day a purchase agreement stops being conditional and the end of a statutory maximum stay are all immovable. Build the sequence around them instead of around the date somebody would prefer to start.
The six route pages here are each built on a different situation: a pharmacist told to announce her employer's permanent-residence plan at the border, a plant manager whose year abroad was interrupted by a secondment, a quality specialist whose expertise may belong to a supplier rather than to his employer, a buyer whose target business employs nobody at all. Reading two of them side by side teaches more than reading one closely, because the contrast exposes which facts a category examines and which it disregards completely. Where your own circumstances diverge from the nearest example, that divergence is the part worth an adviser's time.
Find your pathwayEnquiries from Wickham are answered remotely by Shneur Herman, Jo Kubti and Alexander Paton. There is no office in the municipality, none in the surrounding region and no in-person appointment available for this area. An opening conversation is used to organise facts and to find the gaps in them, and where a formal filing follows, a licensed U.S. immigration attorney takes carriage of it. Nothing here is legal advice; it is general information about federal requirements that apply identically wherever in Quebec a household lives. Where a government page states the current terms of a programme, keep a dated copy of the version you relied upon.

No. Every requirement described on this site is federal and applies in the same way in every Canadian municipality. The address matters only in practical ways: which records exist in French and will need certified translation, which port of entry or preclearance facility is convenient, and how quickly a Quebec professional order or registrar can issue a certificate. None of that alters eligibility, and no adviser can make a municipality relevant to a federal test.
Sponsorship is not a category, and the word covers arrangements that behave very differently from one another. An employer filing Form I-129 for a TN professional is doing something narrow and temporary. An employer moving you between related companies is filing an L petition that must first establish the corporate relationship and one continuous year of qualifying employment abroad within the three years before filing. Ask which form will be filed, and by which legal entity; the answer names the route.
Sometimes, and the constraint depends on the category rather than on the business. TN does not permit self-employment in the United States, so a professional may not invoice a U.S. client through a company he controls there. A treaty investor is expected to develop and direct the enterprise, which absorbs time. Separately from immigration, operating a Canadian company from a U.S. residence raises corporate and tax questions this site does not address, and those belong with an accountant early rather than late.
No. There is no office in the municipality or in the surrounding region and no in-person appointment for this area, so every consultation happens remotely. Shneur Herman, Jo Kubti and Alexander Paton handle enquiries, and a licensed U.S. immigration attorney is engaged whenever a formal filing is to be made.
